lion's mane
Another shot of the Lion's Mane jellyfish.
Also in display were Upside-Down Jellyfish, a Portuguese Man O'War, Moon Jellyfish, and the intricately beautiful Comb Jellyfish. These amazing creatures were exhibited in a darkened specially-lit tank (hence no photograph), and are not true jellyfish. They are only an inch or two big, bell-shaped, and their translucent bodies have tiny lines which ripple and shimmer in the most delicate rainbow-colours imaginable - an effect caused by the light refracting from their tiny cilia (hair-like fronds).
