The cabin in the Georgia mountains. We drove there the day I arrived in the USA, and stayed there for the first week. It belongs to Anne Harvey, the manager of St. Joseph's Peninsula national park in Florida, a friend of Karl's, and it is located about 1.5 miles from the nearest paved road, down a rough dirt track, about 6 miles from Blairsville. The mountains are part of the Southern Appalachians, which extend southwards over the North Carolina border into North Georgia. The classic movie "Deliverance" was filmed in these mountains, approximately 60 miles from the cabin.

The cabin was equipped with all mod cons, though on our arrival we discovered the water pump in the well was out of order. Before it was fixed, we took our morning shower in the nearest waterfall, Halton Falls.
